I’d like to know more about Jefferson city’s antiquated nuisance laws and how the inspectors decide which offences warrant their attention. How do they enforce “Any condition which provides harborage for rats, mice, snakes and other vermin”? Do they have an ecologist on staff? I’m also curious about how tall a weed has to be before it is ignored. The city mowed my lot for me and left every invasive bush honeysuckle but cut down the milkweed plants (necessary plants for the survival of monarch butterflies) and the native blackberries. I assume the large shrubby honeysuckles fell into a different category of plant and were ignored despite the fact they are destroying native habitat across the country. There is a large kudzu vine growing in the city. Look it up and see the devastation it has caused in Mississippi. Aesthetics should not be the driving force behind nuisance laws. The nuisance laws allow the city to harass and tax its citizens.
